After approval, all transportation of animals between vivaria is coordinated by vivarium supervisors. Arrangements are made to transport animals in accordance with approved guidelines and University Policy. To arrange for transportation, call the ACP office at extension 44262.
Animals transferred within facilities are transported in appropriate cages. Rodents should be placed in micro-isolator cages, with the filter top taped in place, and larger animals in appropriate carriers. Animals are not permitted to be walked or hand-carried when removed from their housing room. Transparent rodent cages must be covered with opaque material if the animals are transported out of the vivarium. Any vehicles used in the transportation of animals must be approved for such use by the Animal Welfare Program Campus Compliance Specialist (ext. 48257).
