Rodent Isolation Unit

The Rodent Isolation Unit or "RIU", is an animal facility is available to meet needs of investigators for working with animals which may harbor one or more infectious agents. This area has rooms for housing contaminated rodents and an autoclave for disinfecting cages and materials that are removed for disposal or cleaning. Special scheduling and limited access of husbandry and research personnel will be required to limit the risk of contamination to other research colonies. Designated ACP staff will perform husbandry. All personnel must obtain permission for entry and traffic will be very restricted, according to written standard operating procedures for the facility.
